Message from Director's Desk
"IIT Delhi has always been at the forefront of innovation activities with a focus on the commercialization of technical solutions through patents, start-ups and spin-outs. We proudly publish over 2500 high-quality research publications, file over 150 patents, and are actively involved with many technology transfers every year. We have a strong tradition of product oriented inter-disciplinary research culture and known for our entrepreneurship activities. For example, IIT Delhi ranks #1 right now for the number of startups from alumni and over 50% of Unicorns created by Indians (including NRIs) have come out of alumni of one single institution, that is, IIT Delhi. IIT Delhi has also started 12 new Centres of Excellence in the last 4 years of them 8 are funded by the industries. Our industry support for research is seeing a steady rise. We are working on several multi-faceted activities to develop a more fertile landscape to support innovation and create a positive societal impact.
Industry-academia collaborations provide a great platform to connect resources with complementary interests and needs. We have been traditionally known for our excellent teaching and academic research capabilities. Translational research is fast becoming a norm within the institute. For example, more than 200 of our faculty members are actively involved in Industry collaboration projects and many of the faculty members are co-founders of startups and successfully transferred technologies to industries. Our community is involved in many technical and CSR partnership projects to provide advanced technical solutions to industrial and societal problems. Close linkages with our industry partners help facilitate getting more of these solutions delivered to the society and connect the IITD community with the society at large.
We have been successfully working towards redefining our role from being a teaching-centric institution to an organization that plays an important role in addressing the societal needs and contribute directly to the economic growth of the nation."
