Prior to taking over this role, Sumitesh led the Global Research Programmes under Tata Steel Global R&D across the UK, Netherlands and India. His research interests include – advanced manufacturing technologies, computational materials and nano materials. As part of his work profile, Sumitesh has also developed systems and processes that enable multi-loactional research and technology organisations to function seamlessly. He has also been instrumental in the setting up of the Tata Steel Advanced Materials Research Centres at IIT Madras and Center for Nano and Soft Matter, Bengaluru. What is so unique about working with the Tatas. Sumitesh says – it is the freedom to experiment for a cause without the fear of failure. This ambience has enabled many, including Sumitesh, to dream of solutions that could benefit the larger society while creating business opportunities at the same time. Sumitesh has been actively engaged in the development of the affordable housing solutions NESTIN, in developing alternate energy sources like solar, water, medical and waste management systems using nanotechnology. Since 2007, Sumitesh has been leading a team of innovators who have used nanotechnology to extract waste heat from commercially used coolants, develop water based lubricants, provide superior corrosion resistance on steels. Two of these initiatives e.g CoolFast H2 and GrafLacca has been recognized at the Group level Innovation Awards ""Innovista"" in 2009 and 2015. Sumitesh has been the recipient of the Chevening Fellow from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, UK; receipient of the Young Engineers Award from the Indian National Academy of Engineering and The Brunton Medal from the University of Sheffield"
